Community Wall App

Full-stack Developer Diane Akpovwa

In our current digital age and experience economy, museums and cultural institutions face the particular challenge of cultivating shared attention through participatory experiences that invite exchange, dialogue, and presence.

Community Wall was designed to create space for personal reflection, collective storytelling, and audience participation within the gallery experience.

Community Wall is a participatory interpretive platform that invites visitors to respond to artworks through personal narrative.

Drawing inspiration from museum comment books, social annotation, and community archives, the experience transforms individual reflections into a collective layer of interpretation.

Designing for Reflection

Museum visitors become active contributors to their experience through curator-designed prompts and collective storytelling. Audiences build a living archive of reflections that expands conversations around art, experiences, and community.

Intended Outcomes

- Increase visitor participation with active engagement.

- Encourage intergenerational and multicultural dialogue.

- Extend engagement beyond object labels.

- Create a living archive of visitor voices.

Museums are no longer spaces of passive observation, but environments where attendees can feel they belong and that belong to them.

Designing living archives with participatory engagement would help foster a sense of belonging among attendees.
